“I knew Nikki was the perfect addition to our team the moment she applied,” said Principal Quinn Talbot of Sand Ridge Junior High, who nominated Nikki Wolthuis for the "I Love Teaching" award. “Her presence has brought so much heart to our school, helping kids feel connected, supported, and like they truly belong here.”

Reflecting on Nikki’s impact, Principal Talbot shared, "There is no situation too difficult that Nikki can't handle. She dives right in with both feet to help students feel connected and truly cared for." He expressed gratitude for her contributions to the school’s supportive atmosphere, emphasizing that Nikki has made Sand Ridge “a much more powerful place” with her caring and innovative approach.

Colleagues shared how Nikki’s presence has uplifted their work and impacted the students. “Nikki’s ability to connect with every student is incredible,” said Hunter Bills, highlighting her dedication to programs like the Hope Squad and her natural way of being a source of comfort and support. “She’s always willing to talk with students, notices when they’re having a hard day, and offers a kind word or a helping hand.”

Another colleague, Melanie Limburg, added, “Nikki ensures that every student is heard. Whether it’s a high five, a calm room visit, or simply being there, she makes sure no one is forgotten.” Dave Gordon echoed this sentiment, describing Nikki as "an absolute rock star" with a breadth of knowledge and experience that has greatly benefited the school community.

Students at Sand Ridge also celebrated Nikki’s kindness and enthusiasm. “She truly made me feel welcome here,” shared one student. “She’s always organized and makes sure everyone can be involved. I always feel like I have a place here because of her.”

Nikki’s contributions extend beyond individual interactions. She has implemented data-driven strategies to track and support students’ mental health and academic progress, helping tailor interventions for those in need. Principal Talbot commended her innovative approach, saying, “Nikki doesn’t rely on a one-size-fits-all solution. She thinks outside the box to find what will work for each child, and she makes Sand Ridge a brighter place every day.”

Congratulations to Nikki Wolthuis on this well-deserved award! Her work exemplifies the compassion and commitment that the "I Love Teaching" award celebrates.
