Maria Georgiou, an English teacher at Roy Junior High, has been named the Utah Valley University (UVU) Literacy Champion. This prestigious award recognizes educators who have made significant contributions to literacy education.

"Maria Georgiou is not satisfied until not only ALL of her students are proficient in reading but she feels that it is just as important for her students to develop a deep love of reading," said Kim Irvine, the Secondary ELA Curriculum Specialist for WSD.
